The South Central School Board Wednesday night gave final approval to the sale of $3-million in bonds.

There was discussion of lowering the amount, but Superintendent Kerry Herdes warned there would be future building needs in addition to the $2.1-million dollar addition and bathroom renovation project planned at South Central Middle School this summer.   He said the additional revenue would give the district more flexibility in handling future projects.

“We are using our sales tax proceed to finance our part of the building improvements and renovations and SC middle school.  In regard to money sources it will be the one-cent sales tax bond or sales tax we have in reserve already.  No new tax levy or property tax driven funds will come out.”

In other action, the board agreed to keep entry to all sporting events free for South Central students and keep the adult ticket price at $4.

The board renewed its cooperative sports agreement with St. Peter Lutheran for another two years.

In personnel news, the board accepted the resignation of certified staff member Courtney Ross who also serves as Student Council sponsor, Junior Class Sponsor, Assistant High School Volleyball Coach at the end of the school year.  They also accepted the resignation of Jessica Phillips as a certified staff member.

The board hired Danielle Chasteen and Kara Schukar as full time certified staff members for the coming school year and appointed Aimee Moore as Middle School Scholar Bowl Coach.

The next school board meeting was moved from May 17th to May 15th to meet the deadline to swear in school board members elected in the April 4th election.
