Marion County Circuit Clerk Tiffany Schicker has received a $282,468 Technology Modernization Grant from the Illinois Courts System.
Schicker says a number of improvements are planned with the money.
“This grant will put speakers and assisted listening devices in all of our courtrooms. It’s going to update the current audio in 301. It is distorted when you turn it up so we really don’t turn it up because it hurts your ears when you are listening to it. And the assisted listening device, while we have one, is only available in 301 because there are no speakers or audio systems in the other two courtrooms. It’s a need. The number one complaint I get about the other courtrooms is that people can’t hear.”
Schicker says $42,000 is set aside in the grant to replace the county’s AS400 server that runs the court systems computer network. $11,000 is available for improvements in the probation department and $1,400 for the State’s Attorney’s office. The Circuit Clerk’s office will get some new computers and wireless headsets.
This is the second year Schicker has received the technology grant. $81,5 02 was received last year. She has also received three other grants since taking office in 2020 for a total of $446,421.
