KC Swept By Visiting SWIC In NJCAA Hoops

The Kaskaskia College basketball teams were swept by visiting SWIC last night.  The women fell 70-61.  Keva Wilson had 17 and Staisha Hamilton 14.  The Angels are 15-10 overall, 7-4 in the GRAC and 7-6 Region 24 play.

The Blue Devils fell 65-63 with the Devils going just 16 of 28 from the free throw line.  Jhei-R Jones led KC with 28, Emanuel Prospere added 12 and 10 from Caleb Jenkins.  Ethyn Brown led a balanced scoring attack from the Blue Storm with 13.  KC is 16-9 overall, 5-8 in Region 24 and 7-6 in the GRAC.  They will play at Wabash Valley on Saturday at 5pm.

John A. Logan 78; Vincennes 68

Fourth- ranked John A. Logan broke away in the final five-minutes to gain a 78-68 win at 9th-rated Vincennes.  The Volunteers (14-0, 21-2) stretched their season winning streak to 19-games and beat VU for the eighth straight time behind Quiamari Peterson’s game-high 21 points.  He scored 15 in the second half supported by James Dent who came off the bench to score nine points in the final twenty minutes.  Isaiah Stafford netted 17 points while K.J. Debrick had ten.  Caleb Johnson led Vincennes (10-3, 22-3) with 15 points. Kris King scored 13 points off the bench and Tasos Cook had ten.  The game featured 16 lead changes and ten ties.  VU took a 39-38 lead into halftime on a three-pointer at the buzzer by Johnson.

Olney Central 79; Lincoln Trail 72

Olney Central (9-4, 15-7) moved to within one game of second-place Vincennes in the District standings by beating Lincoln Trail at home, 79-72.  Mershon Dickerson scored 19 for the Blue Knights while Javeckkio Thomas had 18 points, Jakobe Thompson, 15, including three 3’s and Gavin Gilstrap twelve.  LTC’s Clint Wickcliffe, Jr. hit seven treys for the second time this season against OCC and led all scorers with 27 points.  Jesse Lester and Spivey Word each had 11 points and Greg Jenkins scored ten.  Lincoln Trail lost for the 12th time in the last 13-games and fell to 4-10 in District play and 12-14 overall.  Olney led 35-34 at halftime.

Lake Land 90; Shawnee 85

Lake Land outraced Shawnee, 90-85, on the road in Ullin.  Dailliss Cox scored 24 points including 10-10 from the foul line to lead LLC (5-10, 14-12).  Tyler Chapman who had three 3’s and Amar Kuljuhovic each scored 15 points. Johnny Close scored 11 points and Ali Diouf added ten.  Ashton Young of Shawnee grabbed game-high honors with career-high 31 points including a trio of treys while A.K. Hazley also dialed in three triples and scored 24. Elijah had ten points for the Saints (4-10, 10-13).  The Lakers led 36-35 at halftime.

SWIC  65; Kaskaskia 63

Visiting Southwestern Illinois (8-5, 17-8) edged by Kaskaskia, 65-63, on the road in Centralia.  Balanced scoring by the Blue Storm was led by Ethyn Brown’s 13 points. Jaquias Franklin and Noah Courtney scored eleven points each.  Jhei-R Jones carried Kaskaskia (5-8, 16-9, with a game-high 28 points including five threes. Emanuel Prospere scored 12 points and Caleb Jenkins pitched in ten.  KC which led 34-29 at halftime, went 16-28 from the free throw line compared to 14-23 by SWIC.

Lewis & Clark 72; Three Rivers 70

Lewis & Clark (8-13) posted a 72-70 home win over visiting Three Rivers.  Mo Niang had three 3’s and scored 23 points for the 11-14 Raiders.  Hosana Kitenge scored 14 points and Lamont Jackson had thirteen.  L&C led 37-33 at halftime.

Rend Lake 78; Parkland 72

Rend Lake (7-15) took a Division II, Region 24, 78-72, home win over Parkland.  Brennan Lovette paced four Warriors in double-figures with 18 points. Jackson Creel had three 3’s and scored 17-points while Carson Prost netted 16 and Blake McKay had fifteen.  Sean Ealy topped Parkland (11-10), scoring 15 of his 17 points in the second half while Isaac Mapson scored eleven.  Rend Lake led 34-31 at halftime.
