The Marion County Sheriff’s Department handled a dozen calls from minor accidents or vehicles sliding off the road due to icy road conditions on Monday. Six of those calls were from slide-offs on I-57.
Only one incident required extrication and minor injuries. The Marion County Sheriff’s Department reports 50-year-old Nicole Baldwin of Lincoln Street in Kinmundy slid off the Tonti Road east of Route 37. Her vehicle came to rest almost on its side with the driver’s side up in the air.
The position of the pickup didn’t allow Baldwin to get out on her own. Both Salem and Kell Firemen were called to assist in getting the door open and Baldwin out of the pickup.
She was checked on the scene by EMS, but declined hospital treatment.
Meanwhile, the Marion County Sheriff’s Department reports weather was not a factor in a semi-truck failing to make a turn from England Road to Route 37 South of Salem Tuesday morning. The truck ended up stuck across both lanes of traffic, blocking the road for about two hours until it could be moved.
Most schools were on e-learning or out on a snow day for the second day on Tuesday as some secondary roads remained icy in places. Parking lots and sidewalks also remained treacherous if they had not been treated.
