Tax filing season kicks off Monday.
Spokesperson Maura Kownacki says the Illinois Department of Revenue will begin accepting State Tax Returns on January 23rd.
“We encourage tax payers to try mytaxillinois, our free online program. We have improved the site this year. It now allows taxpayers to file with or without an account, pay electronically or receive direct deposits or refunds and get immediate response that those files were submitted.”
Kownacki says if you file an error free return and choose direct deposit, you should get your refund in about four weeks. Last year, 90% of taxpayers filed electronically. The website is: mytax.illinois.gov.
