KC Men & Women Sweep Shawnee, Head To Vincennes Saturday

The KC Blue Devils improved to 14-6 overall with a 76-54 win over Shawnee.  Jylen Petty and Jhei-R Jones had 19 each for KC, Emanuel Prospere added 12 and Zavian Jackson 10.  KC is 4-5 on the Region and 4-4 in the GRAC as they play at 8th ranked Vincennes University on Saturday.

The KC Blue Angels improved to 11-8 overall with their 73-65 win over Shawnee.  Taylor Austin had 23 and Courtney Lumpkins 22 to lead KC.  Staisha Hamilton finished with 15.  The Blue Angels are also in action Saturday at Vincennes.


Men’s Region Roundup:

John A. Logan 99; SWIC  65

          Sixth-ranked John A.  Logan posted the Volunteers 14th straight win by dominating SWIC, 99-65, on the road in Belleville.

          JAL (16-2) has won 15 of the last 16 games by a margin of 11 or more points including an average 30-point cushion over the past four games.

          Curt Lewis pace Logan with 21 points while James Dent added 20 off the bench. Teon Nesbitt had 14 points in relief while K.J. Debrick scored eleven.

          Jaquias Franklin led SWIC (12-7) with 16 points. Saxton Hoepker scored 15 points with Dre Boyd adding 14 off the bench.

          Logan led 46-35 at halftime.

Vincennes 84; Wabash Valley 61

          Eight-ranked Vincennes ran away from Wabash Valley early in the second half to record an 84-61 home win over the Warriors in the 84th meeting between the two teams.

          Caleb Johnson scored 13 of his team-high 22 points in the second half to lead VU (19-2) while Tasos Cook scored 18 and Ryan Daniels netted 16.

          The 10-10 Warriors’ Jakobi Heady hit five treys and took game honors with 28 points including 17 of WVC’s first 19 points in the final twenty minutes.

          Vincennes led 33-26 at halftime and quickly expanded the lead to 53-33 early in the final period. The Blazers hit 68 per cent (21-31) from the floor in the final half.

Olney Central 84; Lewis & Clark 61

          Olney Central won for the fifth straight game, turning back visiting Lewis & Clark, 84-61.

          The 13-5 Blue Knights were led by Mershon Dickerson who buried three 3’s and scored a game-high 26 points.

          DelShawn Simms also connected on a trio of treys and scored 13 point while Tucker Blanford and J.T. Thomas added 11 points each off the bench.

          Lewis & Clark (5-10) got 17 points from L.T. White. Souly Diabe scored 11 points off the bench including 8-10 from the foul line while Jude Saint Jacques also scored ten points.

Lake Land 81; Rend Lake 48

          Lake Land claimed the battle of the “water” teams, defeating the visiting Rend Lake Warriors, 81-48, in Mattoon.

          Johnny Close chipped in 17 points for the Lakers who improved to 12-8 on the season.  Dailliss Cox scored 14 points, Jahmir Tyrell, 12, while Arnardo Camacho had ten.

          Jackson Creel led Rend Lake (5-10) with 17 points including three 3’s while Cawhan Smith scored thirteen.

          Lake Land led 33-30 at halftime.

Kaskaskia 76; Shawnee 54

          Five of the six players who dressed for Kaskaskia scored in double-figures to lead the Blue Devils to a 76-54 win at Shawnee.

          Jhei-R Jones scored 21 points for KC while Jylen Petty netted 16, Emanuel Prospere, 12, while Jackson Harre and Zavian Jackson scored ten points each.

          A.K. Hazley was the only Shawnee player in double figure with 17 points.

          Kaskaskia (14-6) led 34-22 at halftime. Shawnee dropped to a 7-10 record.

          The Blue Devils had four players suspended after leaving the bench during a held-ball scuffle at Lewis & Clark last Saturday.
