Duster Thomas: The Salem Wildcats will open up the 15th annual Duster Thomas Hoops Classic in Pinckneyville tonight with an opening round game against the host Panthers. Pinckneyville is 10-1 on the season and haven’t lost since December 9th against Gibault riding an 8 game winning streak. You can listen to the game starting at 7pm on WJBD and WJBDradio.com.
The tournament begins with Meridian and Carlyle at 9am followed at 10:30 by Olney and Woodlawn. Then at noon it’s Mt Carmel and Okawville with Murphysboro and Roxana at 1:30. At 4pm it’s Jerseyville and Chester followed by Ballard Memorial and Steeleville. After Salem and Pinckneyville the day finishes with Benton and Trico. Salem will play at 9am either way against either Ballard Memorial or Steeleville.
Benton: The Salem Lady Wildcats will open today at the Benton Christmas Classic with a 1:30 start against Goreville. Salem enters at 6-6 on the season coming off 2 straight wins. The tournament begins at 9 with Mt Vernon and the JV from Benton followed by Vienna and Herrin at 10:30, Harrisburg and Carbondale play at 12. Following the Salem game it is Christopher and West Frankfort at 3, Carterville and Triad at 4:30, Marquette and Marion play at 6 and then Benton and DuQuoin at 7:30.
Centralia Holiday Tournament: The Centralia Holiday Tournament opens up today with several big first round matchups. At 8:30 it’s 11-1 Chicago Marist taking on Cahokia followed with a potential game of the day matchup with 10-1 Wekiva, Florida taking on 9-0 Kipp Academy at 10. 8-2 Evanston will play Champaign Central at 12:30 followed by the 8-3 Mount Vernon Rams taking on Chicago Dyett who enters at 8-2 at 2pm. AT 3:30 Cardinal Ritter takes on Walter Payton, at 6:15 it’s 9-3 Hillwood, Tennessee taking on Belleville West. The Centralia Orphans will play at 7:45 tonight against Confluence Academy with Glenwood and Carmel playing in the night cap at 9:15.
Dieterich: At Dieterich, the SC Cougars opened up with a rout of Red Hill 54-28 led by Aidan Dodson with 27. Anthony Buanaura and Rahkim Anderson had 6 points each for the Cougars who improve to 8-4 and will play CHBC and Grayville today.
In other opening round games, Dieterich beat OPH 58-44, Grayville over Red Hill 70-61, Arcola over OPH 61-40, Grayville beat CHBC 84-81, Dieterich over Sullivan 54-35.
Today is day 2 of the Dieterich Tournament. Red Hill and CHBC play at 11:30, Sullivan against OPH at 1, CHBC and South Central at 2:30, Arcola and Sullivan play at 4pm, South Central will then play Grayville at 5:30 and then Dieterich and Arcola at 7.
Vandalia: The Vandalia Tournament opened yesterday. In the first game of the day it took overtime for Greenville to beat Shelbyville 63-60, Nokomis over Okaw Valley 47-34, Christ Our Rock opened with a 73-52 win over Macon Meridian, Flora beat Cumberland 44-33, Greenville over Okaw Valley 49-35, Shelbyville beat Pana 58-47 and Christ Our Rock over Vandalia in the last game of the day 73-50.
Day 2 of the Vandalia Tournament will start with Nokomis and Greenville at 9:30, Cumberland and Vandalia at 11, Flora and Macon Meridian at 112:30, Shelbyville and Okaw Valley at 3:30, Christ Our Rock takes on Cumberland at 5pm, Pana and Nokomis at 6:30 and then Vandalia and Flora at 8.
Carlinville: The 2nd day of the Carlinville Tournament opens with Bunker Hill and Wood River at 1:30, Calhoun and Litchfield at 3, Gillespie and Hillsboro at 6pm and then Carlinville and Staunton at 7:30.
In opening round games yesterday, Staunton beat Calhoun 55-39, Wood River 75-52 over Gillespie, Litchfield beat Carlinville 60-39, Hillsboro over Bunker Hill 57-50.
Eldorado: At Eldorado yesterday in opening round games, Harrisburg upset Hamilton County 60-52, top-seed Herrin is still unbeaten after their 87-42 win over Carrier Mills, Carterville beat NCOE 66-44, Vienna over Edwards County 65-42, Anna beat Fairfield 60-44, Massac County over Gallatin County 65-46, Eldorado over West Frankfort 65-46 and Carmi beat Hardin County 71-39.
Today it’s NCOE and Edwards County at 8:30, Fairfield and Gallatin County at 10, West Frankfort and Hardin County at 11:30, Harrisburg and Herrin at 1:45, Carterville and Vienna at 3:15. At 7 it’s Anna and Massac followed by Eldorado and Carmi at 8:30 and Hamilton County and Carrier Mills play at 10pm.
Sesser: The Sesser Valier Tournament opened yesterday. Red Hill opened with a 71-24 win over Thompsonville, Goreville beat Cobden 68-29, Marissa fell to Christopher 48-44, top-seed Sparta routed Zeigler 83-39, 2nd seed Altamont no issues in beating century 80-21, Johnston City over Waltonville 75-62, DuQuoin over Elverado 84-26 and New Athens beat Sesser 43-42.
Today begins with the championship semifinals quarterfinals at 10:30 with Red Bud and Goreville, then Marissa and Zeigler at noon, Christopher and Sparta at 1:30, Century and Waltonville at 3:30, Altamont and Johnston City at 5, Elverado and Sesser play at 6:30, New Athens and DuQuoin at 8 followed by Thompsonville and Cobden at 9pm.
Kansas/Tri County: At the Kansas Tri-County Tournament, it’s day 1 with Westville and Martinsville at 3, Windsor/Stew-Stras and DeLand-Weldon at 4:30, Lawrenceville and Tri-County at 6 and then Chrisman and Paris at 7:30.
Freeburg: At the Freeburg/Columbia Tournament that opens today, Alton Marquette and Freeburg play at 11, Civic Memorial and Waterloo at 12:30, Columbia and Nelson County, Kentucky at 2pm, Freeburg and Southwestern at 3:30, Gibault and Marquette at 5pm and then Waterloo and Columbia close down the game at 6:30.
Mater Dei: It’s the opening day of the Mater Dei Christmas Tournament, Metro East Lutheran takes on CBC at 9am, McCluer and Briarcrest, Tennessee at 10:30, Mater Dei and Wesclin at 1, Breese Central and Orchard Farm, Missouri at 2:30, CBC and Mascoutah at 4, Briaricrest and Nashville at 6:30, Orchard Farm and McCluer at 8 and then Wesclin and Metro East Lutheran at 9:30.
