Centralia High School approved the annual tax levy at the December meeting last night, holding the increase to 4.99 percent, avoiding the Truth-In-Taxation hearing required by many area districts. The hearing is not necessary if the increase is held to 4.99 percent or below.

Superintendent Chuck Lane said: “After looking at all the fund balances and looking at what the levy could be, we thought it was it was better to go with the 4.99 this year and see what happens and just be able to live with that so we weren’t at the 6.51 percent.”

Lane also told the board that the work on a solar system for the district is continuing, and that a contract will probably be ready at the January meeting, which has been reset to Monday, January 30, 2023.

In other action the board moved to employ James Gullen as a full-time custodian effective December 12, 2022; Jake Wood as a part-time custodian effective December 12, 2022; Brendan Horst as a full-time custodian effective December 27, 2022; Quentin Favors as an assistant wrestling coach for the 2022-2023 school year; Marissa Nix as a volunteer assistant girls’ basketball coach for the 2022-2023 school year; and Tess Timmons as assistant softball coach for the 2022-23 school year.
