The weather won’t stop the return of the 41st Annual Christmas Luncheon at the Salem Presbyterian Church at noon on Sunday.
One of the organizers Amy Telford says they want to make sure no one has to spend the holiday alone.
“We have been off for a couple of years so we didn’t want people to forget that we are starting back up again this year for our Presbyterian Church traditional fellowship dinner that is actually a luncheon. We know the weather is probably maybe going to be cold that day, but don’t let that keep you at home. We’ve done it even when there have been eight to ten inches of snow on the ground. We’re still going to have it.”
Telford says there is no shortage of volunteers to make the dinner happen.
“We have pretty much all of the churches involved, plus we have 10 to 15 additional people from outside the church who are just willing and want to help.”
The dinner will include baked ham, roast turkey and dressing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, green beans, and delicious desserts.
Those who know they can attend are asked to RSVP at (618) 548-2754 so the church has an idea of how much food to prepare. But those who find themselves at home alone on Christmas Day at the last minute are also welcome to show up.
Transportation will be provided, but there are no deliveries since they want everyone to share in the fellowship with others.
