On Saturday, the Community of Salem lost a legend. Bob Jamison, or coach as known to most of us, was a huge part of the Salem baseball program. Whether it be working out at the Little League Complex where a field bears his name or putting new sod down on the high school field, he did so much for the youth in this community. Bob coached Salem High beginning in 1967 where he also served in many capacities with the Salem Little League and worked as a scout for the Cincinnati Reds throughout the 60s, 70s and 80s.
For the past 10 months, Coach Jamison was cared for at Stone Bridge Memory Care in Mount Vernon. Funeral Services will be today (Tuesday) at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Sutherland-Rankin Funeral Home in Salem. Visiting hours will be from 9:30-10:30 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at East Lawn Cemetery with Military Honors accorded at the graveside by the Salem American Legion Post #128.
For those wanting to make a memorial donation in Coaches name can be made to the First Christian Church in Salem or the Salem Little League and accepted at the funeral home.
And on a personal note, thank you Coach for taking the time to chat baseball with some guy from St Peter with an interest in sports and old baseball stories that turned into a friendship that I truly appreciated.
