Wildcats Fall At Richland County, Host Freeburg On Friday

The Salem Wildcats were outscored 12-0 in the opening quarter and dropped their 6th straight falling 49-28 at Richland County High School.  The Cats trailed 23-8 at the halftime break and the Tigers pulled away for good with a 17-9 run in the 3rd quarter.  Salem was led by Seth Bailey with 11 points but the Cats were just 8-of-32 from the field for 25%.  The Tigers were balanced with 9 scoring including 6-8 freshmen Casey Thomann leading the way with 10, Zechariah Wease added 9 and 8 from Ian Winkler.  The Cats are 1-8 as they host Freeburg to B.E. Gum on Friday night.

Salem JV improved to 2-3 with their 52-51 victory.  Noah Nix had a huge bucket and foul late in the game, and Miking Ettress hit 2 free throws in the game’s final 10 seconds to give Salem a 3-point lead.  The Tigers Arjay Keller hit a runner at the buzzer but it was a 2-pointer and Salem held on to win by 1.  Nix and Ayden Rose had 16 each for Salem, Ettress added 13.
