The Inaugural Winterfest Tournament held at CORLHS last year saw the top four seeded teams advance to the final day last year. However, this year’s Tournament, which will be stronger and deeper than the last, may see some surprises before the final on Dec 30.
Southern teams Pinckneyville, Chester, and Hamilton County, along with the Metro East located EAWR and North Clay from Eastern part of Illinois, arrive for year two of Winterfest.
On Dec 9, when coaches seedings were taking place, the tournament field saw 13 of its 16 opponents with records above .500. 4 of those teams had won 7 games or more. Father McGivney and Staunton, last year’s Championship game, received the top 2 seeds with Hamilton County getting the 3 seed.
After that, the field seems wide open. There are 11 different Conferences represented, Black Diamond(East and West), Cahokia(Kaskaskia, Illinois, Mississippi), Gateway Metro, Midland Trail, National Trail, River to River, South Central, and South Egyptian, across 14 different counties.
Most of these teams don’t see each other, which makes the seeding process for coaches tough.
After the top 3, CORLHS, North Clay, Johnston City, Greenville, and Vandalia round out the top 8 seeds.
Winterfest 2022 begins December 27, at 9:30 am.
