Both Marion and Washington Counties increased to the medium community spread level for COVID-19 in the week ending on Thursday.
In Marion County, the CDC tracker indicates 29 new COVID-19 cases were reported in the past week. That’s a 33-percent decrease, but the number of new hospitalizations increased to five.
Washington County saw a 12-percent increase in cases with 19 and two new hospitalizations.
Marion County Health Department Administrator Melissa Mallow says there were no additional deaths reported in Marion County during the past week. The number of congregate care facilities on outbreak status increased by one to four. One had 2 positive cases, two had 15 cases apiece and the fourth had 32 positive cases.
The rest of South Central Illinois is at the low transmission level. Clinton County had 14 new cases, a 53-percent drop, and two new hospitalizations. Jefferson County saw a 57-percent drop in the number of cases to 18 with two new hospitalizations. Fayette County had 16 new cases and one new hospitalization. Clay County had 15 new cases and one hospitalization. Wayne County had 10 new cases, a drop of 28 percent, and one new hospitalization.
Statewide, 13,659 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 were reported in the week ending Thursday as well as 48 deaths. 21 counties are currently at the medium elevated level.
As of Thursday night, 1,070 individuals were in the hospital with COVID-19. Of those, 116 were in the ICU and 37 were on ventilators.
