Salem Soccer hosted six teams on Saturday. They were able to get all the games in with only one weather delay.
The day started off with the 1st/2nd graders hosting Centralia at 8:30. The game was competitive and ended in a 4-4 draw. Nia Garden scored twice, Hadley Michel and Ethan Petrillo added one goal each. Petrillo, Gavin Purcell, Jonah Findley and Katelyn Hilmes did great in net. Coen Dash and Aubrey Branch were solid on defense.
The 3rd/4th grade boys dropped their game 0-2 to Highland. Grayson Frazier had some good chances near the goal. Micah Rollins had a great game at midfield.
The 3rd/4th grade girls were next against New Baden. They won 6-0. Ellie Barnfield, Aspen Morris and Brenna Lowry combined for the clean sheet in net. Laney Kuhns had two goals. Stevie Nix, Skylar Gaston, Briah Henseler and Brooklyn Hosie each scored once.
The 5th/6th girls welcomed Highland. They won 3-0. Goal keepers were Gabby Gaston and Lilly Myers. Adysen Pracht, Alyx Pearce and Sophia Decker each scored one goal.
The 5th/6th Boys earned their first win of the year against O’Fallon. They won 5-2. Carson Hackney scored twice. Jacob McIntosh, Rylan Smith and Trevin Lewis each scored once. Hunter Williams played great in net.
The 7th/8th graders finished the day hosting Albers. Albers scored three quick goals at the start of the game. Salem’s Nicklaus Kahtz answered with a penalty kick late in the first half. Emily Guzman scored another in the second half. However, Salem was unable to complete the comeback and lost 2-3.
