The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases was on the rise in Marion County for the week ending on Thursday keeping the county in the high category for community transmission.

There were 140 new cases reported, up 37 percent from the prior week.   There were three new hospitalizations.   The preliminary seven-day rate of infection is 376 per 100,000 people, compared to the statewide average of 208 per 100,000 people.

Marion County Health Department Administrator Melissa Mallow reported no new COVID-19-related deaths in the past week.  There is one additional congregate care facility on outbreak status.  Of the four facilities, one has two positives, another 5, a third 16, and the fourth 18.

Clinton, Fayette, and Clay Counties are also at the high COVID transmission level.    In Clinton County, there were 91 new cases, a 75-percent increase, with four new hospitalizations.  In Fayette County, there were 58 new cases, up 61 percent, and two new hospitalizations.  In Clay County, there were 61 new cases, down three percent, and one hospitalized.

Jefferson, Washington, and Wayne Counties are all in the medium category.   Jefferson County had 106 new cases in the week ending Thursday.  That was a ten-percent drop.   There were three new hospitalizations.  Washington County had 28 new cases, a 27-percent increase, with one new hospitalization.    Wayne County had 52 new cases, a 27-percent decrease, and two new hospitalizations.

Statewide, 26,462 new cases of COVID 19 were reported along with 123 new deaths.   42 of the state’s 102 counties are now at the high community level. 48 more are at the medium level.

As of Thursday night, 1,471 individuals in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital for COVID-19.  Of those 181 patients were in ICU and 67 patients were on ventilators.
