McKendree University has announced their Hall of Fame Class of 20233 and it includes the 2002-03 men’s basketball team that includes a pair of SC graduates, Matt Laur and Chad Storck. The team had an overall record of 34-4 under legendary Hall of Fame coach Harry Statham and earned it’s first #1 ranking in the NAIA polls. The were American Midwest Conference champions with an undefeated 10-0 record, their first undefeated conference record in school history. They reeled off winning streaks of at least 10 games on three different occasions that season and were led by Laur who was named the NAIA National Player of the Year. Coach Statham also became the NAIA’s all time leader in wins that season. The team also earned a 2 seed in the post season national tournament, the highest in school history.
Also being inducted as an individual is Wesclin grad and New Baden native Dylan Mueth for men’s hockey. He scored 93 goals and had 62 assists in his 4 years and helped McKendree to 57 wins during that time. As a senior after missing 2 seasons to having open heart surgery, Meuth captained the Bearcats to a second national tournament appearance. He is the current head coach of the St Louis AAA Blues U12 Pee Wee Major team.
