Marion County remains at the high community spread level for COVID-19. However, the CDC’s COVID tracker indicates the number of cases in Marion County during the past week fell 24 percent to 102 cases. There were six new hospitalizations. The CDC recommends those living in high community spread counties to wear a well-fitting mask indoors in public regardless of vaccination status. Those who are immunocompromised or at high risk for severe disease should take other precautions.
Marion County Health Department Administrator Melissa Mallow reports no new COVID-19 related deaths in the past week. There are currently three congregate living facilities on outbreak status. One has three positives, another nine, and the third 16 positive cases.
Clinton County is in the low community spread category this week. They reported 52 new cases, a 29-percent decline. There were three hospitalizations.
Jefferson County has dropped to the medium spread category, with 118 cases new cases. That’s a drop of 13 percent from the prior week. There were three new hospitalizations.
Washington County had 22 new or probable cases, a 53-percent decline. There were two new hospitalizations. The county is in the medium community spread level.
Fayette County is still at the high level. But the 36 new cases are down 44 -percent. There were three new hospitalizations.
Clay County had 63 new cases, a 12-percent decline, and is now in the medium category for community spread. One new hospitalization was reported in the past week.
Wayne County has 71 new cases, an increase of 16 percent. The county also had two new hospitalizations.
Statewide, there were 30,762 new cases and 59 deaths. 59 of the 102 counties in the state are at the high level and 34 are now rated at the medium community level.
As of Thursday night, there were 1,413 individuals in the hospital with COVID-19. 140 patients were in the ICU and 5 were on ventilators.
