New law has goal of growing microchip industry in Illinois

A new state law aims to grow the microchip industry in Illinois.

The new Micro Act offers various tax credits for eligible semiconductor and microchip manufacturers says Senator Mike Halpin of Rock Island.

“It’s a package of these tax incentives to encourage companies to do business here in Illinois instead of elsewhere in the country or overseas.  The pandemic really exposed our vulnerability in our supply chains and I think its time we start making those products here in Illinois.”

Microchip production has gone down in the US over the last two decades, and Asia is now the leading manufacturer of the chips.
