LL Major’s City Series Game 1 Highlights Busy Night At Little League Complex

It was an exciting opening game of the 2022 Salem Little League Major’s City Series with Bud’s Minor League holding off a late Americana rally to win 5-4.  With the game tied at 1 in the bottom of the 3rd, Minor League broke open the game with 4 runs to take a 5-1 lead.  But Americana was not done; scoring 3 times in their final at-bat their comeback bid came just short.  In the win, Huck Mulvaney and Nicholi Mahrenhka doubled combining to drive in 3, Jared Crompton also drove in a run.  Benny Bryan was the winning pitcher striking out 12 and allowing just 4 hits and 1 run in 5 innings.  For Americana, Lance Nix worked all five innings allowing 4 earned runs and striking out 9.  At the plate Drake Rector and Owen Tennyson doubled and driving in a run each, Kellen Nix also had an RBI.  Game 2 of the best-of-three series will be Wednesday night at 7pm from the Little League Complex that you can hear on 92.1 FM and WJBDradio.com.

Dairy Queen advanced to the softball Minors City Series with a win over Bandy’s 7-4.  Gabby Goostree was the winning pitcher with 4 strikeouts giving up 4 runs.  Ziva Owen’s had the save striking out 4.  Goostree had 2 hits and drove in 3 runs, Jorja English had a hit and RBI along with Grayce Rose and Elaina Dial.

T&K Title is in the Majors Softball City Series after their 3-2 win over Marion County Savings Bank.  Abby Gore scored twice and Rylee Wilson added a run.  Katee Sellers, Brylee Pennypacker and Gore all had singles with Ashlynn Jamison hitting the walk-off.  Abigail Thompson pitched and struck out 7.  In the loss, Bria Murray hit 2 doubles and scored a run along with Shelby Johnson.  Murray took the loss in the circle while striking out 5.

In Pony League Tournament play, Peoples National Bank beat Salem Tire 6-2.  Wyatt McCarty drove in a run for peoples with Aaden Rostance scoring twice, Cam Carmichael also added a hit as all of Peoples runs were unearned.  Rostance was the winning pitcher going 5.2 allowing 4 hits and 1 earned while striking out 9, Carmichael worked the final 1.1.  For Salem Tire, Colten Starnes went 3-3 with 2 RBI and doubled.  Caiden Beer and Carter Lowe also scored and Riley Tate singled.  Lowe was the tough luck loser working 5 innings allowing 3 hits and 6 unearned runs as his defense made 6 errors behind him.  Starnes worked the final 2 innings with 6 strikeouts.
