The Salem JV Wildcats swept visiting Mt Vernon in summer baseball action at SCHS Field.
Salem won the opener 4-3. Trailing 2-0 in the third inning, Salem scored a pair to tie it and then plated two more in the fourth to earn the win. Cooper Lobek and Jackson Green drove in runs, Rhett Detering added 2 hits, Braden Rector and Aden Bass added hits with Keaton Gullion walking twice and scoring both times. Ayden Rose was the winning pitcher going 5 innings allowing 5 hits and 1 earned run with 6 strikeouts and 5 walks.
Salem finished the sweep winning the nightcap 7-5. Mt Vernon loaded the bases in the final inning, but Rhett Detering came in and threw 3 pitches in striking out the final hitter of the game. Lobek was the starting pitcher going 4.2 with 5 hits and 4 earned runs allowed. At the plate, Ryan Detering drove in 3 with Lobek and Rose driving in runs. Colten Starnes, Gullion and Green added runs in the win.
