Marion County Board Member Bill Henson tries new body scanner at county jail after Tuesday's Marion County Board meeting.

Marion County Sheriff Andy Garden announced a change in deputies during his report to the Marion County Board Tuesday night.

Deputy Paul Williams is resigning to take a position with the Paris, Tennessee Police Department. He’ll be replaced by Fayette County Sheriff’s Deputy Sean O’Leary. O’Leary has been on the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department for just over a year and prior to that was a Farina Police Officer and started as a part-time correctional officer in Marion County.

With two others on the eligibility list turning down the position, Garden says the list has been exhausted and a test will have to be given for a new list.

Garden once again pushed for the addition of a deputy to work alongside the correctional officer at the security station to enter the courthouse. He feels the position is essential with violence issues across the country.

The sheriff also reported the new body scanner used to screen prisoners brought into the Marion County Jail is up and running and really amazing at everything it picks up to avoid contraband being brought into the jail. The Marion County Board was given a demonstration of the scanner at the close of the meeting.
