Centralia Police make two arrests in connection with two weekend business burglaries; recover stolen gun

Centralia Police believe two teens are responsible for weekend burglaries at Buchheits and TK’s CBD Store.

18-year-old Demonte Agnew and a 15-year-old juvenile male have both been charged with burglary and criminal damage to TK’s, with Agnew also arrested for possession of a stolen firearm and possession of a firearm by a felon.

The investigation began at 1:21 Sunday morning when Centralia Police were dispatched to an alarm call at Buchheits.  Officers arrived on the scene and noticed the front door glass was shattered and entry had been made.  The Clinton County Sheriff’s Department K9 and Central City Police assisted with the search of Buchheits.  No one was located in the search.

Central City Officer Josh Patten was returning to his venue when he noticed two males in the 200 block of North Elm Street carrying a bag.  When the two males saw the Central City Officer, they fled.  Officer Patten then noticed the front door of the TK’s CBD store was shattered.  Officer Patten notified Centralia officers of the second burglary.

Video was obtained from Buchheits and the TK’s CBD Store and it was determined the same individuals committed both burglaries.  At this time Buchheit’s officials are still trying to determine if anything was taken from their store.  There were several thousands of dollars in product taken from the TK’s CBD store including a 9mm handgun.

The Centralia Patrol Commander along with patrol officers worked hand and hand with Buchheit’s management and the owner of the TK’s CBD store to identify the suspects.  Through social media and other information gathered, four subjects were contacted at Laura Leake Park in Centralia.  Based on the information gathered, Agnew and the 15-year-old were taken into custody.  Agnew was taken to the Marion County Jail and the 15-year-old was released to a parent.  Police note the 9mm handgun and some product that was stolen at TK’s was recovered less than 24 hours after the burglary.

Agnew was formally charged in Marion County Court on Monday with burglary and theft of items between $500 and $10,000.  Judge Mark Stedelin set bond at $35,000 and appointed a public defender to represent Agnew.  A preliminary hearing was set for July 5th.

Centralia Police on Monday afternoon also sent paperwork to the Clinton County State’s Attorney about the burglary at Buchheits, but no charges have yet been filed.

Agnew had also been charged with Possession of a Stolen Firearm and Possession of a Firearm by a Felon in April and was placed on two years probation when pleading guilty to the possession of firearm charge on June 1st.

The Centralia Police Department would like to commend all officers and the public for working together to quickly solve these crimes and get the stolen firearm off the streets.
