A new state law will make it easier for men in Illinois to get prostate cancer screenings.
Governor JB Pritzker says starting in January of 2024, health insurers will have to cover prostate screenings without charging patients a co-pay or deductible.
Pritzker says, “Preventative healthcare is the best healthcare of all and it shouldn’t break the bank to access it, even if too often in this country it does.”
About one in eight men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer. The average age for diagnosis is 66.
The bill was sponsored by Chicago representative La Shawn Ford, a prostate cancer survivor, who says that everyone should have access to life-saving screenings.
