Today is state semifinal day in prep baseball Class 3a/4a at Duly Health & Care Field in Joliet. At 10 a.m. it’s 34-5 Washington and 26-6 Chatham Glenwood followed at noon by 19-13 Crystal Lake South and 32-7 Nazareth Academy.
The 4a semifinals start at 3pm with Edwardsville entering at 32-4 taking on 35-5 Brother Rice followed at 5pm by 28-5 Mundelein and 30-8 McHenry. The Tigers losses this year were to De Smet Jesuit, Teutopolis, Chatham Glenwood and O’Fallon.
Coach Tim Funkhouser has been at Edwardsville for 23 years amassing a win loss record of 712-169 including 7 prior trips to the state tournament winning the state title in 20-19 and a 2nd place finish in 2017 and 2002.
The 3a/4a girls state softball semifinals are today at the Louisville Slugger Park in Peoria. The day begins with 3a at 10a.m. with Antioch taking on Lemont. Mahomet Seymour will play St Ignatius Prep at 12:30.
In 4a at 3pm, Barrington will play Marist followed at 5:30 by St Charles North and Edwardsville.
