A 31-year-old Kell man involved in a police standoff and the shooting of an arrow towards a police officer has been sentenced to six years in prison on multiple charges from three separate arrests.
Zachary Hanks of Stuber Road admitted to aggravated assault of a police officer for shooting the arrow into a tree that a Secretary of State Police Officer was standing next to during an hour long standoff in rural Kell in January 2019. He received a concurrent three year prison term on a possession of five to 15 grams of methamphetamine charge that was filed after meth was found in Hanks home after the standoff ended. A third count of possession of a firearm with a revoked FOID card was dropped. He was also ordered to serve two years on parole as part of the sentence.
Hanks then received a two year prison term for possession of methamphetamine in November of last year. He received a one year prison term for possession of a controlled substance for having 23 narcotic pills without a prescription following a December 2018 arrest. A possession of meth charge was dropped as part of that plea.
Two other burglary charges pending against Hanks were dropped as part of the plea. They were for entering a building in the 1600 block of Red Stripe Road in Odin in August 2021 and being involved in entering a building on Industrial Park Road in Sandoval in January 2022. Judge Mark Steadlin ordered the pleas in the three separate cases to all be served consecutively, giving Hanks a total sentence of six years in prison.
