It was a long night at the ballpark in Breese for the Salem JV Wildcats as they dropped both games losing 4-3 in the opener and 13-12 in the nightcap against Breese Gray.  In the opening game, Salem led 3-1 after the top of the 2nd inning, but their defense let them down as they committed 4 errors leading to 4 unearned runs in the loss.  Cody Beard drove in the Salem run.  Ayden Rose Colton Shelton and Braden Rector had the other hits, all singles.  Rose went 4 innings on the mound allowing 2 hits and 4 runs, but none earned, while striking out 6.  Shelton worked the final 2 innings.

It was a wild second game as Salem trailed 4-1 after two innings, only to scored 7 runs in the 3rd inning and led 9-5 after 3.5.  But Breese Gray wasn’t done answering with 4 runs in the fourth and another in the fifth to take a 10-9 lead heading to the sixth.  The Cats scored three runs to pull ahead 12-10 only to see Breese score 3 more times in the bottom of the inning to take the lead.  Salem got a runner on in the 7th but couldn’t score.  Rose doubled and drove in 3, Ryan Detering went 2-3 with 2 RBI and a run.  Salem also got RBI from Braden Rector and Colton Starnes along with Shelton, Rhett Detering and Cooper Lobek.  Keaton Gullion walked twice and scored.  Cody Beard, Cooper Lobek, Keaton Gullion and Ryan Detering all pitched in the game.  Salem returns to action tomorrow night when they host Breese.
