Smith leads Memorial
DUBLIN, Ohio (AP) — Cameron Smith is the leader through two rounds of the Memorial.
Smith holed out with a downhill chip from beyond the green on the par-3 12th that carried him to a 3-under 69. He kept his one-shot lead over Denny McCarthy and K.H. Lee the rest of the day.
Smith is 8 under for the tournament as he tries to crack the top 60 for the first time in seven starts at Murfield Village. He missed the cut four times in six previous Memorials.
Danielle Kang playing U.S. Women’s Open with tumor on spine
SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (AP) — Danielle Kang revealed Friday that she played the first two rounds of the U.S. Women’s Open with a tumor on her spine.
The 29-year-old Kang is the 12th-ranked player in the world. She said she learned of the diagnosis “a few weeks ago.” Kang has undergone multiple tests, but it’s not clear yet whether the tumor is malignant or benign.
Triplett shoots 63 to take PGA Tour Champions lead in Iowa
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Kirk Triplett shot a 9-under 63 to take a two-stroke lead over Jerry Kelly, Ken Tanigawa and Brett Quigley after the first round of the PGA Tour Champions’ Principal Charity Classic.
The 60-year-old Triplett had nine birdies in the bogey-free round, closing with pars on the par-5 eighth and par-3 ninth at Wakonda Club.
Kelly eagled the par-5 13th and finished with a birdie on the par-4 ninth.
