Centralia City Firemen were able to confine a fire at a Centralia home late Friday night to one bedroom.
Firefighters say they were initially told there were visible flames coming out a second-floor window of the Harper and McDaniel residence at 1935 East McCord. But they later found just a smoke haze. While there was no indication of fire on the first floor, upon entering the second-floor smoke was found. A fire extinguisher was used to put out most of the fire. A hose was extended into the room to fight the remaining spot fires. A ladder was used to gain access to the room from the outside and a window was broken to help clear out the smoke and assure the fire was out.
Firemen report eight occupants in the home had all gotten out safely before they arrived. The cause of the fire appears to be electrical. Since power had to be turned off to the second floor of the home, the Red Cross was called to assist the family.
Fire damage to the home is placed at about $3,000 with an additional $1,000 in damage to contents.
The fire call first came in at 10:36 Friday night, with firemen remaining on the scene until just after midnight. All available Centralia City Firefighters were called to the scene.
