The Salem Wildcats summer season continued yesterday with a trip to Highland. Salem dropped the opener 8-5 as Highland jumped out to a 6-1 lead after 3 innings. For the Cats, Gavin Zimmermann got the start going 3 innings allowing 6 runs but only 1 earned as Salem’s defense committed 3 errors in the game. Nick Gregg added 3 innings of work allowing 2 earned runs. At the plate, Jalen Inlow drove in a run along with Aden Susmena and Josh Powless.
Salem would come through late in game 2 on a 3-2 count when Josh Powless doubled in the top of the 7th to give Salem the lead and ultimately the win. Salem won in spite being out-hit 6-2. Griffin Day also doubled and drove in run. Charlie Hunter was the starting pitcher going 4 innings scattering 4 hits and allowing 1 earned run with 9 strikeouts. Kam Wilkins worked the final 3 innings allowing 2 hits and striking out 7.
