The Salem Community High School Teacher of the Year is Stacey Beavin.
The announcement was made Monday morning during the end-of-school breakfast by SCHS Academic Foundation member Sheila Baldridge.
Beavin has taught English, Business, and Broadcasting, and has been the sponsor of the Future Business Leaders of America.
“I just say that I am the jack of all trades, the master of none. It’s just been fun to have a lot of experiences with the kids. When you are teaching them business, you feel you are teaching them skills they can use right out of the box.”
Beavin says it has also been fun being the teacher of the Broadcasting Class where she gets to work with students she considers to be ambassadors of the school when they complete their daily broadcast.
Beavin is a native of Patoka and said she was always interested in teaching since she was a small child, but it was a college roommate who initially got her involved in the teaching program at Murray State University where she was earning a business degree.
As teacher of the year, Beavin receives a $500 check from the SCHS Academic Foundation for herself and another $500 to purchase items for her classroom.
