Salem city crews have been on an all-out push to finish recreational facilities in Bryan Memorial Park before a deadline set by a $211,000 Illinois Department of Natural Resources OSLAD grant that provided 50-percent funding.
Assistant to the Director of Public Works Courtney Mitchell reports the GaGa Pit near the new inclusive playground, the sand volleyball court near the former Tee-Pee Shelter, and additional exercise equipment along the walking trail are now all completed.
The batting cages near the men’s softball field are partially erected while the city waits for parts to finish that project.
The former Tee-Pee shelter has now been torn down due to structural concerns and will be replaced in the same location in the near future by another shelter that will have a metal tiered roof.
The city also tore down an old shelter near the new inclusive playground this week. It is being replaced by a new shelter constructed earlier by the new playground.
