The Historic Locust Street Fair returns to downtown Centralia from ten to two on Saturday.
Community Development Director Gayla Harting says many old favorites are back along with some new events.
“40 vendors and we have 12 food vendors so we have more food vendors this year than we have had before. Something new this year is a historic slide show that will be put on by John Stumeier in our council chambers in Centralia City Hall that will be open. We will also have a designated area outside City Hall that will be a children activity area this year. So we will have face painting and free craft projects for them to be able to do.”
Harting says to look for some returning special activities as well.
“The CHS Rock 101 will be here at 1:30 and they will be performing in front of the Illinois Theater. And then Elmwood Speaks is back again this year for a 1pm performance down at the dock on the south side of the museum. Again we will be doing some shuttle tours out to Elmwood Cemetery from 11-12 and will also leave from the museum area.”
An antique car show, Civil War Display and a Civil War Reenactment with a Cannon fired hourly are also planned with several crafter and artisan vendors.
Harting is hoping with the clearing weather on Saturday they can attract the same large crowds as they did last year.
As a result of the Historic Locust Street Fair, there will be no thru traffic or parking allowed in the 100 and 200 Blocks of South Locust Street on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. If you use the parking lot located on the Southwest corner of Locust and 2nd Streets, you must have your vehicle removed by 7:30 a.m.
Saturday.
