The Salem Lady Wildcats opened their season with a pair of games at Benton yesterday. Salem opened the season with a 5-3 win over Benton. Salem got runs from Avery Bass, Mackenna Smith and Miranda Podergois with 2 runs scored from Lily Blagoue. Mya Susmena added 2 hits. Salem then lost to a very good Carterville team 12-0. Susmena and Makenna Smith had the lone Salem hits.
Salem returns to action tomorrow for the Fairfield Tournament. They will take on Carmi at 8:30 a.m. A win puts Salem in the semifinals at 1pm. A loss and they fall to the consolation semifinal at 12:30.
The Odin softball team after losses to Elverado and Centralia, bounced back with a nice 7-3 win over Dieterich.
