What a great way to finish a fantastic first season for our club. At the South Sectional, Myles Donoho finishes in 2nd place in a heart breaker. Myles has been hitting on all cylinders for the past month against some really good competition and was just edged out against a monster in the final. Great job young man!
Kayne Rhynes finished in 3rd place. Kayne lost in the first round and wrestled back to 3rd place with 4 straight wins. Including an overtime sudden victory in the medal round against the kid that beat Kayne in his first match of the day. All Guts!!
We couldn’t be happier and prouder with our first season. EVERY SINGLE KID came and put in the work. Literal blood sweat and tears were poured on the mat and these kids were all-in from day 1. We never dreamed of how successful we would be this year. And success comes in many forms. It’s not always gauged in wins and losses (especially at the youth level).
It may be a kid hitting that move that he hasn’t hit all year. It may be grinding through practice when he’s tired. It may be holding back those tears until he’s off the mat. It is getting through 3 periods in a loss against a kid that has pinned you within 30 seconds every other time you wrestled him. It’s having the guts to get in that circle in front of a packed gym and go to battle. It’s taking L’s all year but still having the mental toughness to look at the future, keep coming to practice to grind to get better every day. It’s knowing that the wrestling room is a place where they can count on their other family, and can come get away from their problem for 2 hours and work out the personal stresses in life (kids have problems too). The wins are fantastic and a wonderful reward and motivator to keep kids pushing forward. However, embracing the grind through tough times to build for future self improvement is what gets us coaches excited. Learning discipline, patience, emotional control and the concept of reaping what you sow was the goal, and we hit that goal. The rest was just icing on the cake.
Thanks to Brian Camp, Daniel Calimade Ramirez and Coach T for putting in the work as coaches. Thanks to the parents for learning a new sport along with the kids and grinding through some long days in the gym and a hard practice schedule.
And a monster thanks to Coach Mike Davis in Mt Vernon for instilling the passion in a few of us a couple years back. We wouldn’t be here without your support and help.
Season 1 is in the books. We are so proud of every single wrestler. Keep grinding!! Get better every day!! Huge things to come!!!
