AMES, Iowa (AP) — Izaiah Brockington had 29 points and 10 rebounds as No. 17 Iowa State dominated rival Iowa in a 73-53 victory. Brockington made his first nine shots and finished 11 for 14 from the field to help the surprising Cyclones improve to 9-0 after going 2-22 last season. Tyrese Hunter added 11 points for Iowa State. Jordan Bohannon scored 17 for the Hawkeyes, who shot just 27% and have lost three in a row. Iowa was averaging 90.1 points per game.
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) — Mackenzie Holmes had 23 points, five rebounds and five blocked shots, and No. 10 Indiana scored a season high in points in a dominating 91-58 victory over Fairfield. The Hoosiers (7-2) went on a 23-0 run in the first quarter after the Stags (3-5) took an early 4-2 lead. Forward Aleksa Gulbe scored 21 points and guard Grace Berger added 19 for Indiana. Fairfield was led by guard Sydney Lowery’s 16 points.
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Naz Hillmon scored 21 points to lead five in double figures as No. 13 Michigan won its Big Ten opener with a 93-81 victory over Wisconsin. Michigan (9-1, 1-0) has won 11 straight against Wisconsin (2-8, 0-2). Danielle Rauch had 18 points for the Wolverines, who shot 52% (35 of 67) from the floor. Emily Kiser added 17 points, Leigha Brown had 13 and Maddie Nolan 11. Rauch and Nolan each had three of the Wolverines’ seven three-pointers. Michigan opened on a 15-5 run, never trailed and led by double-digits for most of the game. Julie Pospisilova scored 21 points for Wisconsin.
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) — Indiana Hoosiers coach Tom Allen has hired Walt Bell as his new offensive coordinator. Bell spent the past three seasons as the head coach at Massachusetts. He replaces Nick Sheridan, who was fired the day after Indiana completed a 2-10 season and its first winless season in Big Ten play since 2011. The Hoosiers opened the season ranked No. 17 in The Associated Press Top 25.
UNDATED (AP) — Alabama quarterback Bryce Young has been voted The Associated Press college football player of the year. That gives the Crimson Tide their second consecutive winner. Young received 42 of 53 first-place votes from AP Top 25 voters to easily finish ahead of Michigan defensive end Aidan Hutchinson, who had four first-place votes. Pittsburgh quarterback Kenny Pickett was third, followed by Alabama linebacker Will Anderson Jr. and Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud. Young also won the Davey O’Brien Award as the nation’s top quarterback.
UNDATED (AP) — Michigan pass rusher Aidan Hutchinson, Notre Dame quarterback Jack Coan and Baylor linebacker Terrel Bernard are among nine college football players selected as semifinalists for the Mayo Clinic Comeback Player of the Year award. The other semifinalists are West Virginia defensive lineman Taijh Alston; Johns Hopkins receiver Ryan Hubley; Florida State quarterback McKenzie Milton; Utah quarterback Cameron Rising; Stetson defensive lineman Avery Samuels; and Kentucky linebacker J.J. Weaver. Three winners and six honorable mentions will be revealed Dec. 21.
