The Marion County Health Department is reporting two new deaths and 67 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday.
Health Department Administrator Melissa Mallow says one of the deaths was a male in his 60s who was not a long-term care resident and was not vaccinated. He had been in a hospital before his death. The second death was a man in his 70s. He was a long-term care resident and was not fully vaccinated. He had also been in a hospital.
Of the 67 new cases, six were fully vaccinated. One was linked to the Salem factory outbreak and none were long-term care residents. The number in the hospital has increased to 17, including one long-term care resident and three cases on ventilators.
The health department reports 51 of the new cases are community spread and 16 were apparently infected from household or close contacts. Eleven of the cases are of school age and four are under four years old. The upper age of the cases are two men in their 70s and one female in her 80s. All are in isolation.
There are now 289 active cases in Marion County. Twenty were released from isolation on Tuesday.
