This year's butter cow at the State Fair.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Illinois State Fair butter cow.

The butter cow was unveiled Wednesday ahead of the State of Illinois State Fair on Thursday.

800 pounds of butter was used by Sarah Pratt of Iowa, who once again created the state fair sculpture.

Governor JB Pritzker was on hand for the unveiling inside the Dairy Building.

“This is one of my favorite things to bring my friends to and that is to our special butter cow.  This is the 5th year that Sarah Pratt has sculpted the butter cow for us.  It’s unique every year and this is no exception.”

The sculpture is of a girl hugging the cow, using this year’s state fair theme of embracing tradition.  There are also hearts hidden within the sculpture representing the 13 essential nutrients in milk.
