Marion County Health Department reporting COVID-19 related death and 65 new cases

The Marion County Health Department is reporting a COVID-19 related death and 65 new positive cases from Friday through Monday.

The health department reports the death was a male in his 70s who had not been vaccinated and who had been on a ventilator at a hospital.   He was not a long-term care resident.   The death is the 122nd COVID-19 related death in Marion County since the pandemic began.

Of the 65 new cases, eight are in school-age children and none in long-term care residents.  Thirteen had been fully vaccinated.   One is linked to the Salem factory outbreak.  50 of the cases are considered community spread and 15 are believed to have been spread from household and close contacts.   They range in age from a girl under 13, seven in their teens up to a male and female in their 80s.

Marion County Health Department Administrator Melissa Mallow says there are now 19 hospitalized from COVID-19 related symptoms.   Three of those are on ventilators.

There are now a total of 146 active cases, including 127 on home isolation.

Jefferson County is reporting a death Tuesday of a female in her 50’s who was unvaccinated.  There have been 73 new cases in Jefferson County over the weekend through Tuesday.   107 positives are currently in isolation.

The Clinton County Health Department is reporting 89 new cases from July 31st through August 8th.   The total number of positive cases in Clinton County has now topped the 6,000 mark with 6,031 cases reported.   There are currently 131 in isolation and three hospitalized.
