A rural Iuka resident who has been involved in the Marion County 4H for 11 years was the winner of the Super Showmanship Award for showing large livestock.
Sara Timm also won the top showmanship award for beef and sheep on her way to winning the top Showmanship Award that now allows her to compete at the state competition.
“The pig you have to make sure that you are driving them towards the judge and you don’t want them to run around the ring, you want them to be calm. With your cow, the same thing, you want them to be calm and to have control over them. Then again with the sheep, you need to have control and have to be able to set their feet with your hand,” said Timm.
Timm has been in the showmanship competition for the past three years. Others advancing to the Super Showmanship competition were Maddox Robb, Haley Shuler, Chase Thompson Elias Mullinax, and Jonathon Wilkins.
4H Program Coordinator Cara Boozer says it was nice to get back to normal for this year’s shows.
“We’re just thrilled to be here, the atmosphere is the same, the culture is back, it is just so much better. We did have a virtual show and we had probably 60 percent participation of the number of kids who participated and submitted videos online. But it’s not the same fair experience. There were not as many classes filled and things like that, but there was some participation from the county,” said Boozer.
Next up, the 4H Auction which is set for six Wednesday night at the 4H Show Barn at the Fairgrounds.
