The Salem Grade School Board has approved a three-year contract agreement with the teacher’s union.
During the first two years, the district will pay three percent more each year to the teacher retirement system. Superintendent Dr. Leslie Foppe says the district provided another three percent increase in the TRS payment for the current school year instead of an actual pay increase. In the final year of the three-year contract, teachers will see a three percent salary increase.
Foppe says the teachers and school board agreed to reach the nine percent district participation in the retirement system to be competitive with other districts in recruitment.
The board will grant a three percent pay increase each of the three years to other staff members. However, some increases could be higher to make sure all employees are making above minimum wage.
