Salem Mayor Nic Farley and newly elected city councilman Jim Koehler and Royce Bringwald were all sworn into office at Monday night’s meeting.
Farley has set several goals.
“Its nice to take the acting label off but I’ve been doing the job for a few months now. It will be nice to get a full council together so we can start working on a strategy session and put together a plan for the city of Salem.”
Farley says economic development will also be key.
“when the Census comes out we are going to see a little bit of a population decline so we are going to have to figure out some strategies to tackle that. Also strategies to help promote economic development both in the Industrial Park and helping businesses that are already here. We have a golden gem in the Industrial Park and that side of town and so I think we could develop that in the future. I think Salem is on the move, you are starting to see construction again so whatever we can do to promote growth in Salem that has to be our number one priority.”
Councilman Jim Koehler was re-elected for four years.
“Really looking forward to this 4 years after coming out of the pandemic. We survived that and I’m looking forward to keep Salem moving and taking care of our citizens.”
Royce Bringwald is returning to the city council.
“Earlier as I was campaigning I made a reference to tourism so I think I’m going to try and be a little more active in tourism. Because that helps with tax dollars and bringing folks into town.”
Bringwald says he is not coming in to upset the apple cart and feels the current city council has done well on following through with projects.
Outgoing councilman Jacob Hockett who finished third in the April council election was thanked for his service and presented a plaque of appreciation.
