Marion County nears 15-percent fully vaccinated against COVID-19

The Illinois Department of Public Health reports 5,611 people in Marion County are now fully vaccinated against COVID-19 which is 14.91-percent of the population.  A total of 14,523 doses of the vaccine have been given.   Statewide, 18.59-percent of the population is now vaccinated with nearly 6.3-million doses of vaccine administered around the state.

Another 2,449 new cases of the coronavirus disease were reported on Sunday, with 14 additional deaths.  One death was in Madison County in the Metro-East.  There were no other deaths in South Central or Southern Illinois.

The seven-day preliminary statewide positivity rate is at 3.8-percent.   In Southern Illinois, the rate is at 1.9-percent.  Marion County has the lowest in the region at just a half percent.   Clinton County’s rate is 1.4-percent, Jefferson County 2.3-percent, Washington County 3.4-percent, Wayne County at 1.5-percent, and Clay and Fayette Counties at 1.8-percent apiece.
