On Tuesday evening, May 12, 2026, the South Central High School Academic Awards Night was held. Principal Michael Koehnke welcomed students, parents, faculty and administration and gave opening remarks. Mr. Koehnke began the awards ceremony by presenting the Honor Roll and High Honor Roll. The Honor Roll GPA requirements are 3.25-3.74. Honor Roll Awards were presented to the following students:

Principal Koehnke then presented the Attendance awards. There are eleven students who have missed two days or less all year. They include: Reese Bushue, Sean Rawson, Annie Ruholl, Emmie Ruholl, Hayley Kuester, Katherine Snyder, Brayden Wernsing, Jessica Byers, Lucas Curry, Derek Engel, and Lydia Flowers. There are four students who haven’t missed a single day all year. They include: Terick Haskins, Will Jenne, Landon Courson, and Maddie Peddicord. The Class of 2026 Valedictorian and Salutatorian were then announced by Mr. Koehnke.

Elizabeth Meyer is the 2026 Valedictorian and Lauren Johnson is the 2026 Salutatorian. The Masonic Lodge of Kinmundy #398 presented scholarships to Miranda Yates, Amelia Montes, Kinlee Thompson, Zoey Feldhake, Addisyn Sigrist, Elizabeth Meyer, and Emily Rose. The Log Cabin Village Scholarships were presented by Jeremy and Sarah Mette.
Receiving those awards were: Micah Kraemer, the Marla Shirley Scholarship; Miranda Yates, the Irma Ingram Scholarship; and Elizabeth Meyer, the Robert “Bob” Ingram Scholarship. The America Red Cross Scholarship was presented to Addisyn Sigrist and Micah Kraemer by Mr. Kaleb Welch.

The Kaskaskia College Board of Trustees Scholarships were then presented by Mrs. Lisa Ring, Dean of Health Sciences. This scholarship goes to the top two in the class that will be attending Kaskaskia college and pays for tuition and fees for two years. The recipients were Logan Byers and Miranda Yates. Dean Ring also presented the Jane Knight Memorial Scholarship to Kaitlyn Crouch and the KC Athletic Scholarship for Softball to Kinlee Thompson. Mrs. Megan Koehnke from Peoples National Bank presented scholarships to Kaitlyn Crouch and Addisyn Sigrist. Then, the Shelter Insurance Foundation Scholarship was presented to Elizabeth Meyer and the South Central Workforce Readiness Scholarships were presented to Rodney and Jason Bowen. The Staff Quick Scholarship was presented to Shelby Smithson and Chase Guerretaz and the Patty Williams Scholarship was presented to Elizabeth Meyer. Mr. Koehnke then presented the music awards. Band pins were awarded to the current band members. The Outstanding Band Member of the Year was Preston Cooper. Mrs. Lynn Riehm then presented the Business Awards to: Annie Ruholl, Emmie Ruholl, and Andrew Reynolds for Introduction to Business; and Brock Sigrist for Accounting. Mrs. Riehm then recognized Izzy Hollowell, Bailey Wodtka, Brock Sigrist, Addie Conant, Josalyn Grandt, and Elizabeth Meyer for placing in the top ten at the State Conference. Izzy and Bailey were also recognized for qualifying to represent South Central at the National Leadership Conference in San Antonio, Texas in June.
The South Central FBLA chapter also earned recognition at the State Conference for the amount of money raised for the Alzheimer’s Association. They received 1 st place by raising a total of over $5,200. Thank you to the students, staff, and community for the support! The FBLA award was then presented to Elizabeth Meyer for all the work she has completed within the chapter, competitions she has won, and help she has provided Mrs. Riehm throughout her four years in FBLA.
The David Powless Social Sciences Award was presented to Izzy Hollowell by Mr. Levi Bridges.

Mr. Branden Wright gave the English Award to Shelby Smithson. Mr. Doug Owens presented the Math Award to Elizabeth Meyer. The Science Award was presented to Elizabeth Meyer by Mr. Kaleb Welch. She has taken and excelled in all science classes offered at the high school. Mrs. Madi Lybarger gave the Spanish Award to Allison Landes who is in her second year in Spanish.
Mr. Hugh Rosen presented Carter Phillips, Trey Parker, and Elizabeth Meyer with the art awards.
The Scholar Bowl Varsity and Junior Varsity teams were recognized by Mr. Kaleb Welch. Caleb Meyer was in the top 5 in toss-ups for JV and helped receive the Conference Title. Elizabeth Meyer was in the top 10 in toss-ups for Varsity. Mr. Koehnke then presented the Teacher of the Year Award to Mrs. Lynn Riehm. Mrs. Riehm has been a teacher for 22 years with all but one in the South Central District. She teaches dual credit business and computer classes, is the FBLA adviser, Prom Sponsor, and HS Web Tech.

The final award of the evening was the Bud Alberson Friends of Athletics Award. This award was presented to Bob and Carol Jahraus. They are always at the game supporting the athletes and are familiar faces in the crowd. They will be presented a plaque at the first game next year.
