The statewide increase in COVID-19 cases continued on Saturday and Sunday.
The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 2,678 new cases on Saturday and 2,250 new cases on Sunday. There were 25 additional deaths reported on Saturday and 23 on Sunday. None of the deaths were in South Central Illinois, but the Sunday report included two deaths in Effingham County, females in their 50s and 90s.
The seven-day statewide positivity rate increased to 3.2-percent. Another 110,211 doses of vaccine were administered on Saturday, bringing the total number to 5,528,422.
