Governor JB Pritzker says the state is acting aggressively to combat the first signs of a possible COVID-19 resurgence.

With the increase in new cases and hospitalizations, the Governor says local public health departments that have plenty of the vaccine may now begin offering it to anyone 16 and up.

“Which is what we will do across the state on April 12th.  But in those areas, we didn’t want any doses sitting around.  We wanted to make sure it is getting into people’s arms as soon as possible, especially if we are going to see an uptick here in the numbers. We want to avoid a surge.”

The largest increases are being seen in the City of Chicago, Suburban Cook County, and Region One, which includes Rockford and surrounding communities.   Friday’s daily case total of 3,003 has been the most single-day cases since February 6th.
