Only two new COVID-19 cases in Marion County as numbers continue to increase statewide

The Marion County Health Department is reporting only two new COVID-19 cases on Friday, while statewide new case numbers rose to 3,002.

The Marion County cases included a teen who was a student and one other who was not a long term care resident.   One of the cases is considered community spread and the other the result of a household or close contact.   There are currently 11 active cases in Marion County, including two who are hospitalized.

Clinton County is reporting three new cases and 28 currently on home isolation.  Jefferson County had no new cases on Friday, with nine remaining on isolation.

While there were no deaths in South Central Illinois there were 33 deaths reported Statewide, including ten in the Metro-East.

The statewide positivity rate increased to 2.9-percent.

Another 126,710 doses of vaccine were delivered on Thursday, bringing the total to 5,281,618 doses.
