Illinois Department of Public Health reports COVID-19 related death in Fayette County; seven new cases in Marion County

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 55 additional deaths from COVID-19 related causes on Thursday, including one in Fayette County where a male in his 80s has died.

There were 1,700 new cases statewide.   The seven-day statewide positivity rate fell to 2.2-percent while the seven-day vaccination average reached 98,000 with 112,776 doses administered on Wednesday.

The Marion County Health Department is reporting seven new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday and Thursday.   Three are considered community spread and four from household or close contacts.   None of the new cases involved long-term care residents or students.   Marion County now has 25 active cases, including eight who are in the hospital.

In Clinton County, two new positive cases were reported on Thursday.  There are now 35 in isolation and two who are hospitalized.

In Jefferson County, three new cases were reported Thursday, with 21 in isolation.

The Clay County Health Department had no new cases to report on Thursday.
