Jefferson Rural Firemen say a fire destroyed a 20 by 40-foot pole barn used as a garage late Monday night.
Firemen were called to the Kenneth Badgett home on Illinois Route 37 just south of Mt. Vernon when the structure was discovered engulfed in flames. The building was 45 feet from the Badgett home that was never threatened. The garage and all of its contents, which included appliances, were destroyed.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The fire call came in at 11:50 Monday night. Firemen were on the scene until 1:40 Tuesday morning.
