Dr. David Campbell Walters, 66, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 4:35 am on January 6, 2021, at his home. David had a great love and appreciation for biology, ornithology, and bird photography. He was an avid Southampton St. Mary’s Saints Football fan and was an accomplished world traveler. David was a talented musician, having played guitar, piano, and sang vocals in many local bands through the years. He graduated from medical school at the University of California in Irvine and worked as an OB-Gyn for Heartland Women’s Healthcare in Southern Illinois for many years. Over his career, he delivered countless babies in Jefferson County and surrounding areas and insisted it was his privilege more than his job to bring new life into the world. David was a truly wonderful father. His children love him dearly and will always remember his enthusiasm and talent as a musician, intellectual curiosity, and genuinely unparalleled sense of humor. He was also such a creative and iconoclastic thinker. He was a published author, scientific theorist, and even invented and produced his own board game. His beloved family is and always will be proud of him and will miss him very, very much. He will be fondly remembered by his family, friends, colleagues, and patients for many years to come.
