Samuel Morton Thompson, 92, of New Minden, Illinois formerly of Odin passed away December 12, 2020, in the care of his daughter.

A laborer by trade, he had worked in manufacturing. He later worked for Salem Gravure Division of World Color Press in Salem. He was a member of the Lutheran Church in New Minden, was an avid Cardinal baseball fan, and loved cars.

The family invites you to gather with them for a graveside service at 11:00 am Friday, Peaceful Valley Cemetery in Odin. There will be no public visitation hour. It is imperative those in attendance wear a mask and practice social distancing.  Memorial’s may be made to the Donor’s choice and will be accepted by the Sutherland – Rankin Funeral Home, P. O. He was born July 23, 1928, in Odin, he was the son of Harry Morton and Evelyn P. (Benson) Thompson.

He married Rosa Mae Rigg and she preceded him in death on May 24, 1979. He then married Alice Hesemann and she also proceeds him in death.

Surviving are his children, Vance (Robin) Thompson of Florida, Linda (Gary) Unverfehrt of Hoyleton, IL, Bonnie Foutch of Salem, Evelyn Thompson of New Minden, IL, and Renne (Brent) Vest of Salem, IL, along with 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wives and parents, he is also preceded in death by his son Harry M. ‘Morty’ Thompson and sisters Doris Taylor, June Bivins, and Margaret Ruth Liddle.
